{"id":32833,"date":"2021-12-15T13:30:27","date_gmt":"2021-12-15T16:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/domainebousquet.com\/?p=32833"},"modified":"2021-12-15T13:30:27","modified_gmt":"2021-12-15T16:30:27","slug":"argentinean-winemakers-must-do-more-to-use-water-wisely-says-co-operative-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/domainebousquet.com\/en\/argentinean-winemakers-must-do-more-to-use-water-wisely-says-co-operative-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"Argentinean winemakers must do more to use water wisely, says co-operative chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Argentinean winemakers must change and improve their water consumption habits, according to a wine co-operative member.<\/p>\n<p>Mauricio Castro of\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/vinodinamicos\/?hl=en\" rel=\"noopener\">VinoDin\u00e1micos<\/a>,\u00a0 a non-profit group of 10\u00a0 Mendoza-based organic and biodynamic producers, told\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/?sh=56932d252254\" rel=\"noopener\">Forbes\u00a0<\/a>it was vital that producers changed the way they irrigated their grape crops.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe wine industry will have no choice but to improve its use of water by trying to replace flood irrigation with drip irrigation,\u201d he said, adding that the water channel route between the Andes to the estates must be properly maintained, and that the VinoDinamicos group had noted a \u201csignificant\u201ddecrease in snowfall over the past ten years.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the water supplying Argentinean vineyards originates from high in the mountains in the form of glaciers and melting snowfall, and in recent years growers have observed a change in the amount of water available in groundwater and for agricultural purposes as a result of climate change.\u00a0 \u201cWater is the main resource that we need to protect,\u201d confirmed Anne Bosquet, president of\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/domainebousquet.com\/en\/en\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Domaine Bousquet\u00a0<\/a>in Gualtallary in the Uco Valley, adding that water had become a limited resource and as a result new innovation was important.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWater preservation is a pressing issue that we are tackling through sustainable technologies like drip irrigation and high performance water treatment plants which resuse water from the winemaking process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since \u00a0it was established in 1999 Domaine Bousquet has used organic \u00a0and biodynamic methods of production. \u2018This allows us to preserve the quality, health and biodiversity of our soils and ecosystems, which subsequtnely can absorb greater quantities of CO2 than conventionally farmed soils,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Argentinean winemakers must change and improve their water consumption habits, according to a wine co-operative member.
