Throughout the ages, wine has garnered the attention and interest of people from every part of the globe. Many factors have affected its popularity. Some people enjoy it for its heart-healthy benefits while others love the taste.

As one of the leading producers of organic, vegan wines, Domaine Bousquet has a deep appreciation for winemaking which shines through in every bottle we produce. We take a look at our most popular organic wines and the inspiration behind them.

Why is Domaine Bousquet wine so special?

Domaine Bousquet is one of the pioneers of modern Argentinean winemaking. It was founded by a third-generation vintner from Carcassone, France, Jean Bousquet, while he was on vacation in Argentina in 1990. Jean found the terroir of the remote, high-altitude Mendoza region to be ideal for growing organic grapes.

From the vineyard’s origins, the Bousquet family maintained the land to keep it in the healthiest condition and were devoted to sustainability. The vineyard is treated with the best care possible and maintained by:

Irrigation – Done through a drop-by-drop system that harnesses the Andean Mountains’ run-off. This run-off of mountain water creates a lower pH in the grapes and leads to higher acidity and deeper color in the wine.

No synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers

In keeping with organic standards, no synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers are used in the sandy soil.

Certified organic grapes and no sulfites added

Our grapes are grown 100% organically and sulfites are not added to our wines.

4,000 ft elevation

Our vineyard is situated high in the Andes foothills at an altitude of 4,000 feet above sea level. This allows the vineyards to benefit from a cool climate and constant fresh air.

Popular organic wines

We make an impressive collection of ten different labels which range from Virgen and Premium Varietals to sparkling wines, special editions, and Gaia, named for the Earth Mother goddess in Greek mythology. Here are a few of our wines.

Premium varietals

Domaine Bousquet’s premium varietal series is made from a blend of estate and purchased fruit from the Uco Valley. These wines are unoaked to let the fruit shine through which makes them very food-friendly. This series includes Premium Pinot Grigio, Premium Chardonnay Torrontes, Premium Rose, Premium Sauvignon Blanc, Premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Premium Chardonnay, Premium Merlot, and Premium Malbec.

Virgen (Non sulfite added wine)

Virgen is made from organic fruit and has no sulfites added, thereby qualifying for fully organic USDA certification. Virgen is the purest expression of the local terroir. These signature “Naturally Elegant Wines” benefit from brilliant sunlight and 50-degree temperature swings between day and night, leading to super-flavorful, fresh-tasting grapes. Virgen’s non-sulfite wine offerings include Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Red Blend.

Domaine Bousquet Reserve

These blends are a step-up from the premium varietal line. They utilize estate-grown grapes from plots with low yields and offer more of everything- more body, more tannin in the reds, and more flavor.

This line includes a Sweet Malbec that has been fortified and aged in second use French oak for 12 months. This award-winning wine has a deep violet color, almost black. On the nose, it has intense aromas of ripe cherries, blackcurrant, chocolate, and coffee notes. On the palate, it’s sweet with chocolate notes, jams, plums, and soft tannins for a persistent finish.  It pairs well with steak, pork, and lamb as well as salmon.

Gaia

These red and white blends are appropriately named for the Earth Mother goddess in Greek mythology.  They are a multi-varietal cornucopia of estate-grown grapes. This Old World tradition of blending varieties is updated to highlight modern, non-classic New World pairings. The primary grape comprises 50% of the mix; each vintage’s bounty from the estate is blended a bit differently to reflect what Mother Nature has offered.

Ameri

This flagship wine is named after our co-owner Labid al Ameri and is a Malbec-dominant blend. Its complex dimensions elevate it from “expected” to “exciting.” Its grapes come from a single vineyard located at 4,125 feet, the highest of the estate.

Gran Bousquet

This line stars the best grapes from the original vineyard planted by the Bousquet family in the 1990s. Grapes here are the last to be harvested and the extra hang time ensures heightened richness and body.

Domaine Bousquet Sparkling

We offer a Charmat method (i.e., produced in a tank) Brut and Rose Brut, as well as champagne-style Methode Traditionelle. These sparkling wines are applauded for their goodness and reasonable pricing. The rose has a stunning copper/salmon pink color that looks absolutely beautiful in the glass. It offers soft cranberry and citrus flavors with a hint of nuttiness.

Pair our wines with friends and food

The culture at Domaine Bousquet is communal and elegant. Much like life itself, we believe wine is better with company. Also, while company exists in the people you choose to share a bottle with it also exists in the classic pairing of elegant wine and an exceptional meal.

When pairing foods with our exceptional wines, we recommend remaining faithful to the same ethos that makes our wines so special: a commitment to the environment that shows through fresh flavor.

Visitors to Domaine Bousquet’s vineyard enjoy excellent food and wine pairings at our on-site organic restaurant, Gaia. Patrons to the restaurant are served fresh ingredients from the on-site organic garden. Gaia offers a seasonal menu with four or six courses plus wine pairings. What’s more, guests have outdoor seating where they can breathe in the fresh mountain air and have breathtaking views of the Andes.

Domaine Bousquet’s passion to produce wines of superior quality shines through in our award-winning offerings. We produce four million liters of wine a year and export 95% of its volume to more than 50 countries. With import companies in the USA, Europe, and Brazil, Domaine Bousquet ranks in the top 20 Argentine wineries. Our quality wines are enjoyed all over the world.
